Parvez Hossain Smashes First BPL Fifty as Chittagong Kings Triumph Over Barishal

In the final match of the first phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Parvez Hossain registered his maiden fifty in the tournament.

Chittagong Kings ended Fortune Barishal’s six-match winning streak with a commanding victory. By defeating the defending champions, Chittagong leapfrogged Rangpur Riders in the standings, setting up a rematch against Barishal in the first qualifier.

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Chittagong secured a 24-run victory in the final game of the first phase. With eight wins from 12 matches, they now hold the second spot, surpassing Rangpur Riders, who also have eight victories but trail in net run rate.

Barishal, with nine wins in 12 matches, remains at the top. Tamim Iqbal’s team suffered three losses—two against Rangpur and one against Chittagong.

Rangpur Riders will now face Khulna Tigers in the Eliminator match on Monday.

Chittagong Posts 206 with Parvez’s Blitz

After losing the toss, Chittagong came out swinging with a fiery knock from Parvez Hossain, backed by explosive cameos from Haider Ali and Shamim Hossain, posting 206/4 in 20 overs.

In reply, despite Dawid Malan’s fifty and Mahmudullah’s late efforts, Barishal fell short, managing only 182 runs.

Parvez’s Aggressive Knock Earns Player of the Match

Parvez’s explosive batting stole the show as he smashed 75 runs off just 40 balls, featuring 2 fours and 8 sixes. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

A Fiery Start for Parvez

Parvez started cautiously, hitting a boundary off the last ball of the first over. He soon switched gears, launching Taijul Islam for a six in the second over. The left-hander had a lucky escape when he mistimed another six attempt but was dropped at deep mid-wicket by James Fuller, turning a near-dismissal into another six.

Both openers continued their aggressive stroke play, helping Chittagong reach 55 runs in the Powerplay. However, Mohammad Nabi’s brilliant catch off Tawhid Hridoy’s shot ended Khawaja Nafee’s stay for 22 off 19 balls in the seventh over.

Parvez-Clarke Partnership Sets the Tone

After a solid start, Parvez and Graham Clarke further strengthened Chittagong’s innings, putting together a quick 70-run stand off just 36 balls.

Parvez brought up his maiden BPL fifty in just 31 balls, eventually falling to Ebadot Hossain for 75 runs. His innings included 2 fours and 8 massive sixes.

Following his departure, Taijul struck in consecutive overs, removing Clarke and Mohammad Mithun.

Haider-Shamim Finish Strong

Building on Parvez’s platform, Haider Ali and Shamim Hossain added an explosive 40-run partnership in just 19 balls. Shamim hammered 22 runs off an over from James Fuller, smashing two fours and two sixes. Haider ended the innings in style, launching the final ball for a six.

Haider scored 42* off 23 balls with three fours and three sixes, while Shamim contributed 30* off 12 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Barishal’s Chase Stumbles Early

Chasing a daunting target, Barishal had a disastrous start as Tamim Iqbal played a maiden first over before getting out on the last ball. Tawhid Hridoy and Dawid Malan struggled initially, with the team managing only 13 runs in five overs before Hridoy fell for 9 off 11 balls.

Malan’s Counter-Attack

Barishal ended the Powerplay with a modest 30 runs, but Malan counter-attacked aggressively. From 11 off 13 balls, he raced to a fifty in just 28 deliveries.

He was particularly severe on Arafat Sunny, smashing two fours and two sixes in the 13th over. Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed for 24 off 22 balls in the 10th over.

However, Malan’s innings came to an end in the 14th over, falling to Aliss Al Islam after scoring 67 off 34 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes.

Mahmudullah’s Lone Fight

With Malan gone, Mohammad Nabi couldn’t make an impact either. Mahmudullah fought hard, but his efforts only helped reduce the margin of defeat.

The veteran remained unbeaten on 41 off 26 balls, but Barishal could only reach 182/7 in their 20 overs, falling 24 runs short.

Match Summary:
