India clinched the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title with a dominant nine-wicket victory over South Africa.
In the final, South Africa had no answer to India’s brilliance. The defending champions crushed their opponents to remain unbeaten and retain their crown.
Playing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, India chased down South Africa’s modest total of 82 runs in just 11.2 overs, showcasing their incredible form.
This was the second edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, and India has now won both titles. In the inaugural edition in 2023, they defeated England by seven wickets in the final.
Both teams had reached the final unbeaten, but South Africa faltered on the big stage. Interestingly, India also defeated South Africa in last year’s Men’s T20 World Cup final to secure their second title in that tournament.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Africa struggled against India’s disciplined bowling. They managed just 29 runs in the powerplay, losing three wickets in the process. Captain Kayla Reyneke (7 off 21) and Karabo Meso (10 off 26) attempted to resist but fell in back-to-back overs.
The highest partnership of their innings was 30 runs between Mikah Van Vuuren and Faye Cowling. Van Vuuren top-scored with 23 off 18 balls, including three boundaries.
India’s bowlers were relentless, with Gangadi Trisha leading the attack, taking 3 wickets for 15 runs. Parunika Sisodia (2/6), Ayushi Shukla (2/9), and Vaishnavi Sharma (2 wickets) also played key roles in dismantling South Africa.
Trisha shone with the bat as well, guiding India to victory with an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls, smashing eight boundaries. Her opening partner Kamalani couldn’t stay long, departing for just 8 runs.
India’s openers put on a 36-run stand before Trisha and Sanika Chalke sealed the win with an unbeaten 48-run partnership. Sanika contributed a steady 26 off 22 balls, hitting four fours.
With this emphatic win, India reaffirmed their dominance in U-19 women’s cricket, proving once again why they are the best in the world.
