Virat Kohli has claimed another record from his legendary predecessor.

Facing Haris Rauf, Kohli executed a stunning cover drive to send the ball racing to the boundary. With that shot, the Indian star reached a remarkable milestone and set yet another record.

Kohli is now the fastest player to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Starting the match against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy just 15 runs shy of the mark, Kohli reached the milestone in the 13th over during India’s chase in Dubai.

Tendulkar took 350 innings to reach 14,000 runs, while Kohli needed only 287. Kumar Sangakkara had taken 378 innings to achieve the feat.

Beyond these three, no other player in ODI history has crossed the 14,000-run mark.

Kohli, at 36, is also the fastest to every milestone from 8,000 to 13,000 runs.

In September 2023, he reached 13,000 runs in 267 innings, and it took him just 20 more innings to add the next 1,000 runs.

Kohli made his ODI debut in August 2008 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla. It took him 16 years and 189 days to reach 14,000 runs. In comparison, Tendulkar reached the mark in 16 years and 50 days, while Sangakkara took 14 years and 246 days.

Kohli also holds the record for the most ODI centuries with 50. He surpassed Tendulkar’s 49 centuries during the 2023 World Cup with a ton against New Zealand.
