Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson’s centuries set the stage for New Zealand’s commanding victory over South Africa in the Champions Trophy semi-final. Despite David Miller’s explosive hundred, the Proteas fell short as the Kiwis secured a spot in the final after 15 years.

Miller’s Heroics in Vain as New Zealand Dominates

David Miller nearly pulled off a miracle for South Africa, smashing a century off 67 balls, including a last-ball boundary to reach the milestone. However, the result was decided much earlier as New Zealand’s 362-run total proved too steep for the Proteas.

Batting first on a favorable Lahore pitch, New Zealand piled up a record 362/6 in 50 overs. In response, South Africa faltered despite a strong start, losing wickets in clusters and finishing at 312/9.

Ravindra Shines with Bat and Ball

Rachin Ravindra led the charge with a brilliant 108 off 101 balls, hitting 13 fours and a six. He also contributed with the ball, dismissing Aiden Markram at a crucial moment. His all-round performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

The 25-year-old now holds a unique record—his first five ODI centuries have all come in ICC tournaments, making him the only player to achieve this feat.

Williamson’s Class and Record Partnership

Kane Williamson, continuing his dominance against South Africa, scored 102 off 94 balls—his third consecutive ODI century against them. His 164-run stand with Ravindra became New Zealand’s highest partnership in Champions Trophy history.

Later, Daryl Mitchell (49) and Glenn Phillips (49*) provided late fireworks, pushing New Zealand past 350. The team scored 110 runs in the final 10 overs, ensuring a mammoth total.

South Africa’s Chase Falls Apart

South Africa started positively, with Temba Bavuma (56) and Rassie van der Dussen (69) adding 105 runs. However, Mitchell Santner’s three-wicket burst turned the game in New Zealand’s favor. He dismissed Bavuma, Van der Dussen, and Heinrich Klaasen (3) in quick succession, leaving the Proteas reeling.

Despite Miller’s counterattack, South Africa never fully recovered. Kagiso Rabada (16) offered brief support, but the target remained out of reach.

New Zealand to Face India in the Final

With this 50-run win, New Zealand is back in the Champions Trophy final after 15 years. They will now face India in the title clash on Sunday in Dubai.
