His 19-year career is a testament to dedication and excellence, even if he doesn’t have a long list of team trophies. Mushfiq has been the face of many “firsts” in Bangladesh cricket, setting new benchmarks and surpassing his predecessors in several aspects.

On Wednesday night, he announced his retirement from ODIs, marking the end of an era. As we bid farewell, let’s take a look at his remarkable records and milestones that highlight his immense contribution to Bangladesh cricket.

Winning Machine

Mushfiqur Rahim holds the record for the most ODI wins by a Bangladeshi player, with 124 victories.

Shakib Al Hasan follows with 117 wins, while Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal have 109 each.

A Record-Breaking Career

Mushfiq is Bangladesh’s most-capped ODI player, featuring in 274 matches—the only Bangladeshi to cross the 250-mark.

Shakib Al Hasan ranks second with 247 appearances.

Uninterrupted Streak

Mushfiq holds the record for playing the most consecutive ODIs for Bangladesh—92 matches from July 15, 2010, to December 26, 2016.

The previous record was held by Tamim Iqbal, who played 85 consecutive matches between February 9, 2007, and July 20, 2010.
Bangladesh’s Fastest Century
Mushfiqur Rahim holds the record for the fastest ODI century by a Bangladeshi batsman.

He smashed a 100 off 60 balls against Ireland in Sylhet (2023), hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes.
He also holds Bangladesh’s fourth-fastest century (100 off 69 balls) against Pakistan in Mirpur (2015).

Second in Runs & Centuries

Mushfiqur’s ODI career totals 7,795 runs with 9 centuries, placing him second in both categories for Bangladesh.

Only Tamim Iqbal surpasses him with 8,357 runs and 14 centuries.

Century of Sixes

Mushfiq is one of three Bangladeshi batsmen to hit 100 ODI sixes.

  • Tamim Iqbal: 103 sixes
  • Mahmudullah: 107 sixes
  • Mushfiqur Rahim: 100 sixes

The Wicketkeeper-Batsman Standard

Out of his 274 ODIs, Mushfiqur played 260 as a wicketkeeper-batsman—a feat only four players in ODI history have exceeded.

  • Kumar Sangakkara: 360 matches
  • MS Dhoni: 350 matches
  • Mark Boucher: 294 matches
  • Adam Gilchrist: 282 matches

Mushfiqur’s 7,254 runs as a keeper-batsman put him behind only Gilchrist, Dhoni, and Sangakkara.

A Master Behind the Stumps

Mushfiqur holds Bangladesh’s records for most dismissals, catches, and stumpings in ODIs:

  • 241 catches (Bangladesh record)
  • 56 stumpings (Bangladesh record)
  • 297 total dismissals (Bangladesh record)

Previously, Khaled Mashud held the record with 126 dismissals (91 catches, 35 stumpings).

Agonizingly Close to 300 Dismissals

Had he taken three more dismissals, Mushfiq would have become just the fifth wicketkeeper in ODI history to reach 300 dismissals.

  • Kumar Sangakkara: 482 dismissals
  • Adam Gilchrist: 472 dismissals
  • MS Dhoni: 444 dismissals
  • Mark Boucher: 424 dismissals

Two-time Five-Catch Feat

Mushfiqur Rahim is the only Bangladeshi wicketkeeper to take five catches in an ODI match—and he achieved this feat twice!

He is also the only Bangladeshi keeper to register five dismissals in multiple matches.

Bangladesh’s Best Batting Partnership

Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan hold the record for the highest partnership in Bangladesh’s ODI history, scoring 3,545 runs together.

They are the only duo to cross 3,000 runs in partnerships. The other notable partnerships featuring Mushfiq are:

  • With Mahmudullah: 2,574 runs
  • With Tamim Iqbal: 2,008 runs

Best Third-Wicket Stand

Mushfiq also shares Bangladesh’s highest third-wicket partnership, scoring 202 runs with Litton Das against Afghanistan in 2022 (Chattogram).

Leadership Stint

Mushfiqur Rahim captained Bangladesh in 37 ODIs, the same number as Tamim Iqbal.

Only four other players have captained Bangladesh in more ODIs.
