Mahmudullah made his debut during the Sri Lanka tour in 2007. Yesterday, he announced that he has already played his final match at the 2025 Champions Trophy. Over his nearly 18-year career, Mahmudullah has achieved remarkable feats. His name shines brightly in many pages of the record books.

  • Oldest to Score a Century for Bangladesh
    Mahmudullah holds the record for the oldest player to score a century for Bangladesh in international cricket. In the 2023 World Cup, he scored a century at the age of 37 years and 262 days against South Africa in Mumbai.
  • Most Centuries in Global Tournaments for Bangladesh
    Mahmudullah has the most centuries for Bangladesh in global tournaments, with three centuries, followed by Shakib Al Hasan with two.
  • Highest Test Score at No. 8 for Bangladesh
    In his final Test match in 2021 against Zimbabwe in Harare, Mahmudullah scored an unbeaten 150 runs in the first innings. He is one of six batsmen in Test history to score 150 runs at No. 8.
  • Only the Eighth Player to Score 150 Runs in Final Test
    Mahmudullah became the eighth player in Test history to score 150 runs in their final Test match. No other Bangladeshi player has even scored a fifty in their last Test.
  • 5 Wickets on Test Debut
    Mahmudullah is Bangladesh’s third bowler to take 5 wickets on Test debut. He achieved this feat in his debut Test match against the West Indies.
  • 8 Wickets on Test Debut
    On his Test debut, Mahmudullah took 8 wickets against the West Indies. Among Bangladeshi bowlers, only Sohag Gazi (9/219, against West Indies in Mirpur, 2012) has taken more wickets on debut.
  • Second Highest Partnership for 9th Wicket
    Mahmudullah holds the record for the second-highest partnership for the 9th wicket in Test history. In 2021, he added 191 runs with Taskin Ahmed in his final Test. They fell short by just 4 runs of the record held by South Africa’s Mark Boucher and Pat Symcox.
  • The Only Bangladeshi with 1000 Runs, 50 Wickets, and 50 Catches in ODIs
    In ODIs, Mahmudullah is the only Bangladeshi to have scored 1000 runs, taken 50 wickets, and caught 50 players, alongside Shakib Al Hasan.
  • Most Wickets for Bangladesh with Fewest Runs in ODIs
    Mahmudullah holds the record for the fewest runs taken for 3 wickets in an ODI. In 2011, he took 3 wickets for just 4 runs in 1.1 overs against Pakistan in Chittagong.
  • Second Longest ODI Career in Bangladesh
    With 17 years and 214 days, Mahmudullah has the second-longest ODI career for a Bangladeshi player, only behind Mushfiqur Rahim, who retired recently with a career spanning 18 years and 202 days.
  • Age at Last International Match
    Mahmudullah’s age at his last international match was 39 years and 20 days. The only Bangladeshi player to have played at an older age is former pacer Jahangir Shah, who played his last ODI at the age of 40 years and 283 days in 1990.
  • Most T20I Matches for Bangladesh
    Mahmudullah has played the most T20I matches for Bangladesh, with 141 matches.
  • Second Most Runs in International T20Is for Bangladesh
    With 2444 runs in international T20Is, Mahmudullah is second only to Shakib Al Hasan (2551 runs) among Bangladeshi batsmen.
  • Most Sixes in International T20Is for Bangladesh
    Mahmudullah holds the record for the most sixes in international T20Is for Bangladesh, with 77 sixes.
  • First Bangladeshi to Hit 200 Sixes in International Cricket
    Mahmudullah is the only Bangladeshi player to hit 200 sixes in international cricket. Tamim Iqbal is second with 188 sixes.
  • Most Matches Played for Bangladesh Across All Formats
    Mahmudullah has played 430 matches across all formats for Bangladesh. Only Mushfiqur Rahim (470) and Shakib Al Hasan (447) have played more.
  • Most Catches for Bangladesh in International Cricket
    Mahmudullah has the most catches for Bangladesh in international cricket, with 171 catches. He is the highest catch-taker in ODIs (82) and T20Is (51), and ranks third in Tests (38).
  • Most Matches as Bangladesh’s T20I Captain
    Mahmudullah has captained Bangladesh in the most T20I matches, with 43 appearances.
