The match started with an early breakthrough as Samson Roy took two wickets in the fifth over, giving St. Gregory High School & College some hope of restricting the opposition. However, what followed was sheer domination. Mustakim and Sowad Parvez toyed with the bowlers for the remaining 45 overs, rewriting history with their bats.

Mustakim’s 404 was complemented by Sowad’s 256-run innings, and together, they put up an astonishing 699-run partnership, leading Cambrian to a record-breaking total.

A Historic Day at Dhaka University Ground

This extraordinary feat took place on Tuesday at the Prime Bank School Cricket Tournament divisional round match at Dhaka University Ground. Not only is this the first instance of a batsman scoring 400 runs in the tournament’s history, but even at a broader level, such milestones are rare in Bangladesh cricket.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Cambrian lost two early wickets within five overs, despite already putting 71 runs on the board. Then came the game-changing partnership. Mustakim and Sowad steadily built their innings before unleashing an onslaught on the bowlers.

By the time the innings ended, their unbroken stand of 699 runs had taken their team to a jaw-dropping 770-run total.

Mustakim’s Fireworks and Sowad’s All-Round Brilliance
Mustakim’s innings was an exhibition of aggressive batting, maintaining a strike rate of 237.64. He struck:

  • 50 boundaries
  • 22 towering sixes

Meanwhile, Sowad played a brilliant supporting role with his 256 off 124 balls, hitting 32 fours and 13 sixes.

If his batting heroics weren’t enough, Sowad also shined with the ball, picking up 4 wickets, while Hassan Hridoy bagged 6 wickets for just 11 runs.

A Crushing Victory

Chasing an almost impossible target, St. Gregory High School crumbled for just 32 runs in 11.4 overs, handing Cambrian a 738-run victory—one of the most dominant wins in school cricket history.

Mustakim’s Reflection on His Historic Innings

After the match, Mustakim and Sowad visited Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, where they shared their thoughts with the media.

“Both of us were feeling confident while batting today, so we planned to stay till the end. When we lost two early wickets, I decided to play aggressively while asking Sowad to anchor the innings.”

Mustakim also acknowledged his long-time teammate’s role in his record-breaking innings.

“Sowad and I have played together since childhood. He supported me a lot, especially towards the end, by giving me more strike. I really appreciate that.”

A Star in the Making?

Mustakim has already played in the U-18 divisional level and is currently representing Tejkunipara Cricket Club in the Third Division Qualifying League. After this incredible performance, he expressed his strong belief in his abilities.

“I had confidence in myself today. I just tried to time the ball well, and once I got going, I felt I could do something big. I’ve played big innings in different tournaments before, so I believed I could do it again.”

With such a monumental achievement, Mustakim has certainly made his mark, and cricket fans in Bangladesh will be keeping a close eye on his future.
