After winning the Champions Trophy, the Indian team received ₹19 crore as prize money from the ICC. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a staggering reward—three times that amount—for Rohit Sharma and his team.
BCCI has decided to award ₹58 crore to the victorious squad. The prize money will not only be distributed among the players but also include coaching and support staff, along with the selection committee.
The ICC had allocated $2.24 million (approximately ₹19 crore) as prize money for the Champions Trophy winners. Additionally, teams earned $34,000 per group-stage win.
India’s road to redemption over the past year has been remarkable. After the heartbreak of losing the 2023 ODI World Cup final despite a dominant run, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and their squad bounced back in style, securing back-to-back ICC trophies. They won the T20 World Cup earlier and now added the Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand in the final.
BCCI President and 1983 World Cup-winning pacer Roger Binny called the financial reward well-deserved, stating:
“Winning back-to-back ICC trophies is a special achievement, and this reward recognizes the team’s dedication and excellence on the global stage. It also acknowledges the hard work of those behind the scenes. This is our second ICC trophy this year, following the U-19 Women’s World Cup win. These successes highlight the strength of India’s cricketing ecosystem.”
India’s consistency in major ICC tournaments has been nothing short of incredible. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, they have played 24 full matches in three major ICC events—losing only one, the 2023 World Cup final. Since then, Rohit’s team has remained unbeaten, winning both the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.
