Delhi Capitals won the first Super Over battle of the season.
With 7 wickets in hand and two explosive batsmen at the crease, Rajasthan Royals couldn’t manage to chase down 9 runs in the final over. Mitchell Stark was the key, delivering one yorker after another to seal the tie for Delhi Capitals. They later won in the Super Over.
At Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Rajasthan Royals set a target of 188, which Delhi successfully matched. Both teams finished with 188/4, marking the 15th tie in IPL history and the first since 2021. This was Delhi’s fifth tie, and Rajasthan’s fourth.
In the final over, Stark had a 9-run target to defend against Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel. His precise yorkers made all the difference, as Hetmyer managed only 1 run from the first two balls, then added 2 more from the next two. Hetmyer took a single on the fifth ball, handing the strike to Jurel. The final delivery saw Jurel run out while attempting to score the required 2 runs.
In the Super Over, Stark gave away only 5 runs in the first three balls. After a no-ball that was hit for four, Stark bounced back with two crucial run-outs, finishing Rajasthan’s innings with just 5 balls. Delhi then needed 12 runs to win, which they achieved in just four balls, with Sandeep Sharma leading the way.
In the chase, Lokesh Rahul took 7 runs off the first three balls, and Tristan Stubbs hit a huge six to seal the victory.
Delhi’s top scorer in the main match was Abhishek Porel with 49, while Akshar Patel and Stubbs both contributed with 34 runs each. For Rajasthan, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana both scored 51, and Sanju Samson added a quick 31 before injuring himself. Dhruv Jurel and Hetmyer added quick runs late in the innings, but they couldn’t finish the job.
After taking a wicket in the 18th over and giving just 8 runs, Stark’s brilliant bowling in the final over and Super Over made him Delhi’s hero. He was named Player of the Match, earning the recognition for the first time this season after last season’s final.
