Rajasthan Royals will once again be without their captain for another match.
Sanju Samson’s return to the field has been further delayed as he’s yet to recover from his injury. The Royals will miss their skipper in the next clash as well.
Rajasthan are set to face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday. The inaugural IPL champions left for Bengaluru on Monday, but Samson did not travel with the squad.
In an official statement, Rajasthan said, “Samson is still recovering from a lower abdominal injury. He will continue his rehabilitation in Jaipur and hence, has not been considered for the Bengaluru match.”
The franchise has not given any specific timeline for Samson’s return.
Samson sustained the injury while batting against Delhi Capitals last Wednesday. He retired hurt on 31 runs during the chase and missed the following game against Lucknow Super Giants. In his absence, Riyan Parag led the side.
With Samson ruled out, Vaibhav Suryavanshi got his chance in the Lucknow match — making history as the youngest ever debutant in IPL at just 14 years and 23 days old.
Suryavanshi made an immediate impact, smashing a six off the first ball he faced. The young left-hander scored a quickfire 34 off 20 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours. With Samson still unavailable, he’s likely to feature again against Bangalore.
So far in this IPL season, Rajasthan Royals have managed to win only two out of eight matches and currently sit eighth on the points table.
