India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has received death threats via email on the same day a deadly terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The threats were sent in two separate emails, both containing the chilling message: “I kill you,” according to Delhi Police.
The emails came on the day of a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left at least 26 people dead and 10 more injured. The victims were mostly tourists from various parts of India. The first threatening email was received by Gambhir at 2:07 PM, and the second at 7:09 PM.
Gambhir’s secretary filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, urging immediate action. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harsha Vardhan confirmed the development:
“We’ve been informed about a threat sent to an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. An investigation is underway.”
According to a report by the Times of India, police sources believe the threats came from a group calling itself “ISIS Kashmir.”
Earlier that day, Gambhir had condemned the Pahalgam attack in a post on social media platform X, writing:
“Praying for the families of the victims. Those responsible will pay. India will strike back.”
DCP Harsha also confirmed that security measures around Gambhir and his family have already been reinforced:
“Gautam Gambhir is already under Delhi Police protection, and we don’t comment on specific security arrangements.”
This isn’t the first time Gambhir has faced such threats. Back in 2022, similar warnings had prompted authorities to tighten his security.
