In the first Youth ODI on Sri Lankan soil, Bangladesh U-19 faced Sri Lanka U-19. Winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first and posted 241 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. This set Bangladesh a target of 242 runs to chase.
In response, Bangladesh’s batting order collapsed one after the other. They were bowled out for 143 runs in just 33.3 overs, losing by 98 runs.
The highest scorer for Bangladesh was Kalam Siddiki, who made 46 runs. He was supported by Mohammad Abdullah (17 runs) and Al Fahad (10 runs). There were a few exciting moments, such as a six from Zawad Abrar, a quick knock from Samiun Basir, and some stylish shots from Al Fahad. However, the continuous fall of wickets prevented the Tigers’ youth from forming any significant partnerships.
Sri Lanka’s Vigneswaran Akash was outstanding with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 33 runs. Kugadas Mathulan and Kithma Vidanapathirana each claimed 2 wickets.
Although Bangladesh showed some resistance early on, a swift collapse in the middle order shattered their innings. The team couldn’t bat through the full 50 overs as batsmen were dismissed quickly.
The Bangladesh U-19 team management will focus on improving batting stability, bowling attack, and fielding in preparation for the next match, aiming to bounce back in the series.
