B Sai Sudharsan completes 1,500 runs in IPL and 2,000 in T20s

Sai Sudharsan continues to shine with the bat in this year’s IPL. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian batter not only played a blistering innings but also reached two major milestones and broke a long-standing record.

On Friday, Sudharsan completed 2,000 runs in recognized T20 cricket in just 54 innings — the fastest by an Indian and the second-fastest globally. Back in 2011, Australia’s Shaun Marsh set the world record by reaching the mark in 53 innings.

Among Indian batters, the previous record was held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who took 59 innings to reach the milestone.

Sudharsan also became the fastest Indian to score 1,500 runs in IPL history — breaking yet another record previously shared by Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, both of whom took 44 innings to get there. Sudharsan did it in just 35.

Coming into the match, the Gujarat Titans’ 23-year-old left-handed opener needed just 10 runs to complete 1,500 in IPL and 32 to get to 2,000 in T20s. He ended up scoring 48 off 23 balls, hitting 9 boundaries.

Sudharsan has also become the first batter to cross the 500-run mark in this IPL season. He now has 504 runs at an impressive average of 50.40 and a strike rate of 154.12, with five fifties in ten matches.
