Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra fined 25% of match fee

After a loss to Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya received more bad news. The Mumbai Indians captain was fined again due to a slow over-rate.

In a rain-affected match at Wankhede on Tuesday, Gujarat defeated Mumbai by 3 wickets using the DLS method. Pandya was fined ₹24 lakh for falling behind on the over-rate during the match.

Moreover, each Mumbai player (including the impact player) was fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fee.

This is the second time in the current IPL season that Pandya has been penalized for a slow over-rate. His first penalty came in a match against Gujarat, where he was fined ₹12 lakh.

According to the IPL code of conduct, the first slow over-rate offense of the season results in a ₹12 lakh fine for the captain. Subsequent offenses result in increased penalties, with fines imposed on both the captain and the team.

In the thrilling final over, Gujarat triumphed by 3 wickets, chasing down Mumbai’s target. Mumbai scored 155 in their innings, and due to rain interruptions, Gujarat’s revised target was 147 in 19 overs.

Ashish Nehra, Gujarat’s head coach, also faced punishment for violating section 2.20 of the IPL’s code of conduct, which refers to actions that are contrary to the spirit of cricket. IPL authorities did not specify Nehra’s exact offense.

The former Indian pacer was fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach Munaf Patel received the same penalty for a code of conduct violation.

Other captains penalized for slow over-rate violations this IPL season include Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar, and Riyan Parag.
