Following the ceasefire, the BCCI has released new directives for the IPL. According to Indian Express, the board has instructed all teams, except Punjab Kings, to report to a designated venue by Tuesday. They plan to resume the IPL on Friday.
Originally, the IPL was scheduled to end on May 25. However, Indian Express reports that BCCI intends to extend the tournament until May 30 following its suspension. The remaining matches are expected to be played at three venues: Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, starting from May 16.
The updated schedule is expected to be sent to all IPL franchises by tonight.
An anonymous source from BCCI told Indian Express, “Due to the one-week suspension of the IPL, the final might now take place on May 30 instead of May 25. However, the remaining matches will be held at specific venues. The schedule will be sent to the teams tonight.”
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal commented, “The ceasefire has been declared. Now, we’re exploring opportunities to restart and finish the IPL. If we can proceed immediately, we will finalize the venues, schedule, etc. We will discuss this with the owners, broadcasters, and all involved parties. Most importantly, we need to consult with the government.”
After the one-week suspension, many foreign players and coaching staff have returned to their home countries, and teams are now working to bring them back. With 12 matches remaining, the BCCI requires at least two more weeks to complete the tournament, as six days will be needed for the playoffs and final. Therefore, the board plans to increase the number of double-headers (two matches in one day).
Another source confirmed that all franchises have been instructed to have their players report to the designated venues by Tuesday. Punjab’s venue is yet to be finalized, as they will play at a neutral location. The board is also planning to schedule more double-headers to complete the IPL within the given timeframe.
Arun Dhumal added, “We are looking for opportunities to restart and finish the IPL, and we will discuss the venues, schedule, and other details with all stakeholders. The most important thing is consulting with the government.”
Previously, the BCCI had suspended the IPL due to border tensions, and after discussions with the government, they initially selected Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad as the venues for the remaining matches. A final decision will be made after further talks with the government.
