The remaining matches of the tournament will take place across six venues.
The IPL authorities have officially announced the new schedule for the remainder of the season. The tournament, which was put on hold, will resume this Saturday.
Organizers released a statement on Monday night confirming the update.
“The remaining matches of the tournament will take place across six venues — Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The final will be held on June 3. The playoff venues are yet to be disclosed.”
The IPL was suspended for a week last Friday due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
There are still 17 matches left to be played, including 13 from the first leg of the tournament.
The abandoned match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals — which was called off midway due to a sudden floodlight outage in Dharamshala last Thursday — will now be replayed on May 24 in Jaipur. The tournament will officially resume this Saturday with a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru.
The final match of the first leg will take place on May 27 between Lucknow Super Giants and Bengaluru. The first Qualifier will be on May 29, followed by the Eliminator the next day, and the second Qualifier on June 1.
In the official statement, it was mentioned that “before making the final decision to resume the tournament, the BCCI held extensive discussions with the government, security agencies, and all key stakeholders.”
Originally, the final was scheduled for May 25 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, with the revised schedule extending the tournament, it now overlaps with the three-match ODI series between England and the West Indies (May 29 to June 3).
This creates uncertainty over the availability of West Indies players Romario Shepherd (Bengaluru), Shamar Joseph (Lucknow), and Sherfane Rutherford (Gujarat Titans), as all three are part of their national ODI squad.
England has yet to announce their squad. The availability of players like Jos Buttler (Gujarat), Phil Salt (Bengaluru), Jacob Bethell (Bengaluru), Liam Livingstone (Bengaluru), Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians), and Reece Topley (Mumbai) will depend on which teams make it to the playoffs.
The revised IPL schedule now leaves only a seven-day gap before the ICC World Test Championship Final, which takes place on June 11 at Lord’s between Australia and South Africa.
Players who are currently part of IPL teams and also contenders for that WTC final include Pat Cummins and Travis Head (both Sunrisers Hyderabad), Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Josh Hazlewood (Bengaluru), Marco Jansen and Josh Inglis (Punjab Kings), Aiden Markram (Lucknow), Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat), Ryan Rickelton (Mumbai), and Keegan Petersen (Rajasthan Royals).
Right now, the biggest challenge for the 10 franchises will be to regroup their players and support staff. Many foreign cricketers have returned to their home countries. Whether they will all return to India is still uncertain.
After a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was reached last Saturday — just four days after cross-border attacks — IPL organizers quickly moved forward with plans to resume the tournament.
