Bangladesh is set to receive more than seven times the prize money in the ICC Test Championship this time, finishing seventh compared to ninth in the previous two editions.
In the last two cycles of the Test Championship, Bangladesh earned $100,000 each time for finishing ninth. Now, not only has their position improved to seventh, but the ICC has also significantly increased the prize money. As a result, Bangladesh will get over seven times more than before.
If the prize money for lower-ranked teams has increased so much, it’s easy to imagine the jump for the top teams! The prize money for the champions and runners-up has more than doubled this time. In fact, the runners-up this edition will receive more than the champions did in the previous two tournaments.
The champion team’s prize money is now a record $3.6 million, compared to $1.6 million in each of the previous two editions.
The runners-up will get $2.1 million, whereas in the last two finals, the losing team took home only $800,000.
This year’s final features the current champions Australia facing South Africa, who have reached this stage for the first time. The battle for Test supremacy begins on June 11 at Lord’s.
India, who finished third this time, will earn $1.44 million, while last edition’s winner New Zealand is now fourth, receiving $1.22 million.
England, finishing fifth, will take home $960,000, and sixth-placed Sri Lanka will get $840,000.
Bangladesh, finishing seventh, will receive $720,000. West Indies, in eighth place, will get $600,000, and Pakistan, finishing ninth, will earn $480,000.
In contrast, the prize money for the teams finishing sixth to ninth in the previous two editions was only $100,000 each.
