The Lucknow Super Giants’ leg-spinner, who has grabbed attention in the IPL for his impressive bowling, quirky ‘notebook’ celebrations, and repeated breaches of the code of conduct, has now stunned everyone with a remarkable bowling performance in a local T20 match.
Digvijay Rathi bowled an unbelievable spell, taking four batsmen bowled in his first four deliveries, followed by an LBW on the fifth ball—sealing the match right then and there! This incredible feat of five wickets in five balls was delivered by the Indian leg-spinner, who had already made headlines for both his skill and controversies in the IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants shared a video of Digvijay’s bowling on social media this Monday. The franchise’s owner, Sanjiv Goenka, posted the clip with the caption:
“I’m amazed watching this clip of Digvijay Rathi taking five wickets in five balls in a local T20 match. This is a glimpse of the talent that made him a star for Lucknow in the 2025 IPL.”
Details about the match location or the tournament name were not disclosed. In total, Digvijay took 7 wickets in the match.
The video shows that in his first three overs, he conceded 28 runs while claiming 2 wickets. When he came on to bowl the 15th and final over of the innings, the opposition needed 113 runs from 36 balls with 5 wickets in hand.
Digvijay, just 25 years old, dismantled the batting lineup by dismissing five batsmen in the first five balls of that over—bringing the match to an astonishing close.
This IPL was Digvijay’s debut season. Before the tournament, he was relatively unknown in Indian cricket circles, having played only two matches in the domestic T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, he made a mark in the recent Delhi Premier League, taking 14 wickets in 10 matches. His bowling action and run-up somewhat resemble Sunil Narine’s, hiding the ball well during delivery. This caught the attention of the Lucknow franchise, who bought him for ₹30 lakh in the auction.
Though Lucknow missed out on the playoffs, Digvijay impressed with the ball, finishing as the team’s highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from 13 matches, conceding just 8.25 runs per over.
He also became well-known—and sometimes criticized—for his ‘notebook’ celebration after taking wickets, where he mimics writing or signing an autograph. His exuberant celebrations led to multiple fines and disciplinary actions. In one season alone, he was fined three times for breaching the code of conduct and was even suspended for one match.
