The six-month reign of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt at the top of the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings has come to an end.
“Smriti Mandhana has returned to the top of the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings.” The Indian opener has dethroned Laura Wolvaardt to reclaim the number one spot after five and a half years.
The ICC released its weekly women’s rankings update on Tuesday, where Mandhana climbed one position to reach the summit. Wolvaardt dropped one spot and is now tied in second place with England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Wolvaardt managed scores of 27 and 28 in the first two ODIs against the West Indies, costing her 19 valuable rating points. She and Sciver-Brunt are now both on 719 points.
“Mandhana leads the rankings with 727 points.” This is the first time since November 2019 that she has claimed the top position.
The 28-year-old Indian batter recently impressed in the final of the tri-nation series in Colombo, scoring a century against Sri Lanka — her 11th in ODIs.
Meanwhile, “Sophie Ecclestone remains at the top of the ODI bowling rankings,” and “Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner continues to lead the all-rounders list.”
