Bangladesh closed in on the 500-run mark on a rain-hit second day of the Galle Test against Sri Lanka.

At stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh reached 484 for 9 in their first innings. Despite rain interrupting play, 61 overs were bowled on the day, during which Bangladesh added 192 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Play was halted for over two and a half hours in the middle session due to rain, and bad light brought an early end to the day’s action, with 11 overs remaining.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who resumed the day on 136, was the first to fall, adding just 12 more runs before getting caught at mid-off by Asitha Fernando for 148 in the seventh over of the day.

His partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim ended on 264 runs—just two runs shy of equaling Bangladesh’s record for the highest fourth-wicket stand in Tests.

Mushfiq then stitched together another solid partnership with Liton Das. The pair added 149 runs for the fifth wicket before Mushfiqur was trapped LBW by Asitha for a brilliant 163 off 350 deliveries.

In the very next over, Liton departed for 90, falling short of a century for the third time in his career. He attempted a reverse sweep to a ball well outside leg stump from Tharindu Ratnayake, only to edge it into the keeper’s gloves.

After that, wickets fell quickly. Zakir Ali was bowled for 8 by a delivery that nipped back from Milan Ratnayake. None of the lower-order batters could stick around, as Sri Lanka picked up 5 wickets for just 26 runs.

Summary Score
