In the last edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Phil Simmons served as the head coach of Trinbago Knight Riders. However, he took over as the head coach of the Bangladesh national team last year. As a result, Trinbago have now appointed Dwayne Bravo as his replacement for the upcoming season.

Following his appointment, Bravo expressed gratitude to Simmons in a post on social media, saying:
“Trinbago is a team very close to my heart, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to become the head coach of such a team. I personally thank Phil Simmons for the way he has worked with the team over the past few years. I’m now looking forward to this new challenge.”

Bravo has a long history with Trinbago in the CPL. From 2013 to 2024, he featured in 11 seasons of the tournament and won five titles, nine of those seasons with Trinbago.

After retiring from the IPL in 2022, Bravo began his coaching career. He worked as the bowling consultant for Chennai Super Kings in 2023 and 2024. In the most recent IPL season, he served as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders. In the ILT20 league, he also worked as head coach of Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, part of the same franchise group.

Bravo has also been involved in coaching at the international level. Most recently, he was Afghanistan’s bowling consultant during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the team reached the semifinals.

This year’s CPL will run from August 24 to September 21. Trinbago finished third in the points table last season but were eliminated in the eliminator by Barbados Royals.
