After nearly a three-hour delay, play is set to resume at 2:40 PM Bangladesh time. Around 50 overs may still be possible on this final day. Tea will be taken at 4:10 PM.
Rain Returns Right After Mushfiq’s Run-Out
Mushfiqur Rahim attempted a quick single to complete his half-century off Prabath Jayasuriya’s delivery, but fell just short. A direct hit from Tharindu Ratnayake saw him run out for 49, ending a 109-run partnership that lasted 191 balls.
He scored 49 off 102 balls with four boundaries. Right after his dismissal, the rain returned and play was halted.
At that point, Bangladesh had reached 237 for 4 in 76 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 89.
Shanto-Mushfiq Create History
In the first innings, Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto missed a record by just two runs with a 264-run stand. This time, in the second innings, they put together a 109-run partnership.
This marks the first time two Bangladeshi batters have shared two century partnerships in a single Test match. It’s only the 51st time this has occurred in Test history—and the third time against Bangladesh.
Another Century Stand
Following their 264-run partnership in the first innings, Shanto and Mushfiqur added another century stand in the second. Their partnership reached the 100-run mark off 167 balls. Mushfiqur was closing in on a half-century, while Shanto looked set for another century in the match.
At 72 overs, Bangladesh were 228 for 3. Mushfiqur was on 46 from 91 balls with four boundaries, and Shanto was unbeaten on 83 from 155 balls with nine boundaries.
Shanto Survives Early Scare
Earlier in the morning, Shanto narrowly escaped being caught out while attempting a reverse sweep off Tharindu Ratnayake. Lahiru Udara moved to his right from silly mid-off and managed to get both hands on the ball, but couldn’t hold on due to the speed of the shot. Shanto survived on 66.
After 63 overs, Bangladesh were 196 for 3, leading by 206 runs. Shanto was on 66, and Mushfiqur on 31.
Lead Crosses 200
In the first four overs of the day, Bangladesh crossed a 200-run lead. Shanto hit boundaries off the first balls in consecutive overs from Milan Ratnayake, while Mushfiqur added one off Tharindu Ratnayake.
After 61 overs, Bangladesh were 191 for 3, with Shanto on 66 and Mushfiqur on 26.
