New Zealand will be without Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson, and Ben Sears for the T20 tri-series in Zimbabwe.”
Adam Milne is set for a return to international T20 cricket, as the 33-year-old right-arm pacer has been named in New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming tri-nation series in Zimbabwe—marking his comeback to the shortest format after more than a year.
The tri-series, to be held in Harare, will feature Zimbabwe, South Africa, and New Zealand. The Black Caps have named a 15-member squad for the tournament.
Key players will be missing from the New Zealand setup. “Lockie Ferguson has been rested as part of workload management, Kyle Jamieson is awaiting the birth of his first child, and Ben Sears is recovering from injury.”
Milne last played a T20I for New Zealand in February 2024. He missed the previous T20 World Cup due to ankle surgery but made his return to international cricket in ODIs last November. Now, he’s back in the T20 squad.
Bevon Jacobs, who is yet to make his international debut, also earns a recall. He was first included in the squad during the Sri Lanka series in December-January but didn’t feature in the Pakistan series that followed.
Several players who missed the Pakistan T20Is due to IPL commitments are back—”Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and captain Mitchell Santner all return.” Devon Conway remains out of the squad and hasn’t featured in T20Is since the last World Cup.
Interestingly, several members of New Zealand’s T20 squad are currently participating in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament in the U.S. The MLC final is scheduled for July 14—the same day the tri-series begins.
However, New Zealand play their first match two days later, against South Africa. “New Zealand Cricket has said that if any player is unavailable due to the MLC final and cannot arrive in Zimbabwe in time, a replacement will be named.”
Following the T20 tri-series, the Black Caps will stay on in Zimbabwe to play two Test matches.
