Continuing his explosive form in the Youth ODI series against England, India’s 14-year-old batting sensation has now smashed a record-breaking century.

After narrowly missing out on a ton in the previous match, this time Vaibhav Suryavanshi made no mistake. The young Indian left-hander delivered a destructive century against England, further etching his name into the record books.

On Saturday, in the fourth Youth ODI of the England tour, Suryavanshi reached his century in just 52 balls — now the fastest hundred ever recorded in Youth ODIs. The previous record belonged to Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who had scored a 53-ball ton against England in Leicester back in August 2013.

Pakistan’s Qasim Akram is third on the list, scoring a century in 63 balls against Sri Lanka during the 2022 U19 World Cup. India’s previous record was held by Raj Bawa, who hit a 69-ball century against Uganda in the same tournament.

At just 14 years and 100 days old, Suryavanshi has also become the youngest centurion in Youth ODI history. The previous youngest was Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto, who reached the milestone at 14 years and 241 days in a match against Sri Lanka in Sylhet back in 2013.

In the previous game, Suryavanshi had already caught attention by smashing a half-century in just 20 balls — the second-fastest Youth ODI fifty by an Indian. That day, he blasted 9 sixes in a 31-ball 86, setting the record for most sixes in an innings by an Indian in Youth ODIs.

Just two days later, he rewrote that record as well. In his whirlwind 143 off 78 balls, he struck 10 sixes and 13 fours, raising the bar even higher.

His consistency across the series has been just as impressive. In the first match, he hammered 48 off 19 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours. In the second game, he hit 45 off 34 with 3 sixes and 5 boundaries.

After 4 innings, Suryavanshi’s tally stands at 322 runs with a staggering strike rate of 198.76 and an average of 80.50 — having hit 27 fours and 27 sixes so far in the series.
