Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the Indian team will not be touring Bangladesh next month.
The possibility was hinted at last week by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul during a board meeting. Now, it’s official — the Indian cricket team will not be visiting Bangladesh as originally planned.
On Saturday, the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a joint statement confirming that the tour has been postponed by about 13 months. India’s tour will now be scheduled for September next year.
No specific reason was mentioned for the postponement. The joint statement simply said,
“Based on mutual understanding, BCB and BCCI have agreed to postpone the white-ball series.”
According to the fixture released back in April, India was supposed to arrive in Bangladesh on August 13 for a two-and-a-half-week tour, which included three ODIs and three T20Is. The first ODI was scheduled for August 17 at Mirpur.
The boards are now aiming to hold the series in September 2026, a slot when Bangladesh has a gap in their international calendar.
After last week’s BCB board meeting, Aminul had said that India’s tour this year was subject to clearance from the Indian government.
He mentioned that the fate of players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma touring Bangladesh this year depended on that green signal.
India hasn’t toured Pakistan for years due to political tensions and lack of government approval. When asked whether a similar issue was affecting the Bangladesh tour, the BCB president avoided giving a clear answer at the press conference.
When contacted by bdnews24.com to clarify the reason behind the postponement, BCB Vice President and Head of Cricket Operations Nazmul Abedin, as well as CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, did not respond.
