Nazmul Hossain Shanto has slipped down the ODI batsmen rankings.
Despite Bangladesh’s disappointing performance in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Zakir Ali showed fight with the bat — and it’s reflected in the rankings. He has jumped 32 places, climbing to 59th in the batsmen list.
The ICC released the weekly update of the men’s cricket rankings on Wednesday as usual. Along with Zakir, another Bangladeshi batsman, Towhid Hridoy, has also moved up slightly.
Bangladesh lost the three-match series 2-1 in Sri Lanka, failing to deliver consistent batting performances in any match.
In the first game, chasing 245, Bangladesh were bowled out for 167. Amid the collapse, Zakir scored a gritty 51 off 64 balls batting at number seven. In the second match, he scored 24 on the way to a narrow victory, and in the final game, he managed 27 runs.
His consistent fighting innings earned Zakir a 32-place rise to 59th in the rankings.
Hridoy started the series poorly with just 1 run in the opener but bounced back well in the next two games. He scored 51 off 69 balls in Bangladesh’s only win and followed that with another 51 in the final match. He has moved up seven places to 51st in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Tanzid Hasan’s impressive 62 off 61 balls in the first match helped him gain 19 places. Soumya Sarkar, currently out of the national team, dropped seven spots. Both Tanzid and Soumya are now jointly ranked 85th.
Litton Das, who was dismissed for a duck in the first match and did not feature in the remaining two, dropped eight places to 78th. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who failed with the bat in all three games, slipped six places to 34th.
India’s Shubman Gill remains at the top of the batsmen rankings.
Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, who performed consistently throughout the series, climbed 10 spots to 10th after scores of 45, 56, and a brilliant 124 in the final match.
Charith Asalanka, who made 106 in the first game and 58 in the last, has moved up two places to 6th.
Among bowlers, Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan saw the biggest jump. Taking six wickets in three matches, he advanced 18 spots to 92nd.
Taskin Ahmed, who took 4 wickets in the first game and 2 in the last, moved up two places to 26th — the highest-ranked Bangladeshi bowler.
Others have slipped. Mustafizur Rahman dropped 11 spots to 46th, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell one place to 29th.
In Bangladesh’s only win, Tanvir Islam played a major role with five wickets. He also took a wicket in each of the other two games but has yet to break into the top 100 rankings.
Sri Lanka’s victory was powered by Wanindu Hasaranga, the leg-spinning all-rounder who took 9 wickets in three matches and climbed 11 places to 8th.
Dunith Wellalage rose 5 places to 31st, while Asitha Fernando jumped 23 places to 36th.
Sri Lanka’s off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana remains the top-ranked bowler.
