Shakib Al Hasan lit up the opening match of the Global Super League with a composed and impactful innings. The seasoned Bangladesh all-rounder struck a brilliant half-century to guide Dubai Capitals to a strong total.
Playing against Central Districts in Guyana on Thursday, Shakib remained unbeaten on 58 off 37 balls, laced with 7 fours and a six. He brought up his fifty in 34 deliveries with a boundary off Matthew Ford in the final over.
It was a welcome return to form for Shakib, who had been dismissed for a duck in his last three T20 innings. The fifty also ended a dry spell of 10 T20 innings without reaching the milestone. His last half-century came during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he scored an unbeaten 64 against the Netherlands in Kingston.
After losing the toss, Dubai Capitals were sent in to bat at Providence Stadium. Niroshan Dickwella managed 15 runs off 13 balls, while fellow opener Sediqullah Atal smashed 41 off 25 with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Shakib came in to bat at No. 5 during the 8th over and got going immediately with a boundary off his first ball. His innings could’ve ended early on 18, but a fielder dropped a simple catch—one that Shakib fully capitalized on.
Thanks to his steady presence, Dubai Capitals posted 165 runs in their 20 overs.
