Rishabh Pant has added another milestone to his name with the bat.
His brilliant innings ended in a run-out, but along the way, Pant reached several notable landmarks during yet another fifty-plus knock on this England tour.
On Day 3 of the Lord’s Test, just before lunch on Saturday, Pant was run out by a direct throw from Ben Stokes. His impressive 74-run innings came off 112 balls and included 8 fours and 2 sixes.
With those two sixes, Pant has now equaled Rohit Sharma’s tally for the second-most sixes in Test cricket by an Indian. Rohit finished his career with 88 sixes in 116 innings. Pant has matched that number in just 80 innings.
The top spot, currently held by Virender Sehwag with 91 sixes in 180 innings, is now within touching distance. For Pant, it seems only a matter of time before that record falls.
The world record for most Test sixes is held by his opponent’s captain, Ben Stokes, who has smashed 133 sixes in 204 innings.
Pant has also now set a new record for most sixes by any batter against England in Test cricket, surpassing none other than the legendary Viv Richards.
Richards hit 34 sixes in 36 Tests against England during his 17-year Test career. Pant, on the other hand, has already hit 36 sixes in just 15 Tests against England—including 15 sixes in just five innings in this ongoing series.
Pant now also holds the record for the most runs scored by a visiting wicketkeeper in a single Test series in England. With two centuries and two fifties in five innings, he has already scored 416 runs. The previous record was held by New Zealand’s Tom Blundell, who scored 383 runs in six innings in 2022.
Among all wicketkeepers, the record for most runs in a Test series in England still belongs to England’s Alec Stewart, who scored 465 runs in 10 innings against South Africa in 1998.
With two more matches left in the series—and another innings still to play at Lord’s—Pant has a real shot at surpassing Stewart’s record.
He’s not alone in the race, though. England’s Jamie Smith has also crossed 400 runs in the series, scoring 407 in five innings so far. He’s now just the third England wicketkeeper to cross the 400-run mark in a single Test series.
