After defeating the West Indies’ Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rangpur Riders also toppled Australia’s Hobart Hurricanes.

Chasing 13 runs in the final over, Mohammad Nabi started with a six off the first legal ball after a wide. But the bowler, Azmatullah Omarzai, kept his composure, conceding only 2 runs in the next two deliveries. On the fourth ball, Omarzai dismissed Nabi, sparking an intense fightback. With 2 balls left and 4 runs needed, Hobart Hurricanes couldn’t find the required runs. Rangpur Riders secured a thrilling victory in a nail-biting finish.

In Sunday’s Global Super League (GSL), Rangpur clinched a one-run win over Hobart in a match packed with excitement, defending their total of 151 by bowling out the opposition for 150.

This was Rangpur’s second consecutive win in the tournament, having earlier beaten Guyana Amazon Warriors by 8 runs under Nurul Hasan Sohan’s captaincy.

The star of Rangpur’s victory was Syed Khaled Ahmed, who bowled brilliantly to take 4 wickets for 26 runs. He had taken 4 wickets for 36 runs in the previous match as well and won the Player of the Match award in both games.

Rangpur’s innings began on a shaky note. After losing the toss and electing to bat, they lost Soumya Sarkar in the 4th over. The left-handed opener was bowled trying to play Fabian Allen off the off-side, scoring 5 runs from 6 balls.

Another opener, Ibrahim Zadran, batted well to build the score but was dismissed near his half-century. He scored 43 runs off 31 balls with 1 six and 6 fours before falling to Usama Mir’s leg spin.

Rangpur then lost wickets at regular intervals. Yasir Ali, captain Sohan, Omarzai, and Iftikhar Ahmed couldn’t make much impact. Only Omarzai managed double figures, scoring 15 runs off 15 balls.

Amidst the fall of wickets, Kyle Mayers held one end steady. He was the lone fifty-maker in the innings, scoring 67 runs off 42 balls. The Caribbean all-rounder remained unbeaten, hitting 2 sixes and 8 fours.

Mayers also shined with the ball, taking an early wicket in the first over by trapping Sri Lanka’s Wanuka Rajapaksa LBW.

Ben McDermott fought back strongly for Hobart, hitting 4 fours off Omarzai in the second over. However, Khaled dismissed McDermott to stem the attack.

Iftikhar then applied the brakes by taking consecutive wickets of McAlister Wright and Jack Doran, tightening Rangpur’s grip on the game. Rokibul Hasan didn’t allow Nikhil Chaudhary to settle either.

After losing wickets quickly, Hobart was under immense pressure.

Nabi tried to hold the innings together, supported by Oden Smith. Khaled dismissed Smith after he scored 20 runs off 13 balls. Khaled then removed Fabian Allen and Raf McMillan in successive deliveries in the next over.

Nabi took the game to the final over with Rangpur still leading, setting up an intense finish where Rangpur emerged victorious.

The Afghan all-rounder scored 44 runs off 36 balls with 3 sixes and 1 four.
