This English fast bowler is ready to do whatever it takes to play in the Ashes series on Australian soil.
Jofra Archer made his Test debut in the Ashes about six years ago. Since then, he hasn’t featured in the traditional white-ball battle against Australia. Now, after a long absence from red-ball cricket, Archer is eager to taste that fierce rivalry once again. He is fully prepared to give his all to be part of the upcoming Ashes series.
Injuries to his elbow and back kept Archer out of Test cricket for over four years. He made his return to the elite format at the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’s Lord’s Test, where England secured a thrilling 22-run victory over India. Archer played a key role, taking five wickets in total.
On just his third delivery in the match, he trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal lbw. He also dismissed Washington Sundar twice and bowled Rishabh Pant in the second innings.
After a long break, Archer bowled 39.2 overs. The fourth Test of the series begins on July 23 at Old Trafford, giving Archer a week to recover and recharge. He intends to prepare fully and play in the next match as well.
Following the Lord’s Test, Archer told Sky Sports on Monday that he wants to play in the remaining two Tests against India and represent England in the upcoming Ashes in Australia.
“If they give me the chance, I can play the remaining two matches (against India). I don’t want to miss out on this series. I’ve told Rob Key (England’s Managing Director) that I want to play in the summer Tests. And I want to play in the Ashes as well. I feel like I’ve already taken a step forward, and come November, I’ll do everything I can to get on that plane to Australia.”
The five-match Ashes series will kick off in Perth this coming November.
