The ICC has entrusted the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) with hosting the next three World Test Championship finals, following the ECB’s successful organization of the last three finals.
The upcoming decisive matches for the Test Championship titles over the next three cycles will all be played on English soil. This decision was finalized recently at the ICC’s annual conference held in Singapore.
The first two editions of the Test Championship final were held at Southampton and The Oval respectively. New Zealand clinched the inaugural title in 2021 by defeating India, while Australia claimed the trophy in 2023, again beating India in the final.
Last month at Lord’s, South Africa triumphed over Australia by 5 wickets to become Test champions, ending a 27-year wait for an ICC trophy. Their previous ICC title was the 1998 Champions Trophy.
There had been speculation that from 2027 onwards, India might host the final. However, the ICC chose England, citing ECB’s proven track record of successfully staging recent finals as the main reason behind their decision.
Receiving the responsibility to host the 2027, 2029, and 2031 Test Championship finals, ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould expressed great satisfaction.
