West Indies players have been fined 10 percent of their match fee.
The Caribbean side was penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate during the fourth T20I against Australia. As a result, all West Indies players were handed a 10 percent fine on their match fees.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the sanction on Monday, stating that West Indies were two overs short of the required rate.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over they fall short of the target within the allotted time.
West Indies captain Shai Hope accepted the penalty imposed by the match officials, which meant there was no need for a formal hearing.
Interestingly, West Indies set an unusual record in Sunday’s game — no batter from their side crossed even 35 runs, yet the team still managed to post a total of 205. This was the first time such a thing happened in international T20 cricket.
Despite crossing the 200-run mark, West Indies lost the match. Australia chased the target down with ease, thanks to fifties from Josh Inglis and Cameron Green, and a destructive knock from Glenn Maxwell, winning the match with seven balls to spare and only three wickets down.
West Indies now trail the five-match series 4-0 and will face Australia again on Tuesday, hoping to avoid a whitewash.
