This year’s T20 Asia Cup will be held across two venues in the United Arab Emirates.
Although the Asia Cup schedule was released about a week ago, the final decision on venues and match start times was still pending. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has now officially announced that the tournament will take place at two stadiums.
The ACC confirmed on Saturday that matches will be played at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Except for one match, all games will start at 8 PM Bangladesh time.
In the group stage, Bangladesh will play all three of their matches in Abu Dhabi. Liton Kumar Das’s team will begin their campaign on September 11 against Hong Kong.
Bangladesh’s other two opponents in Group B are Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Just one day after the first match, Liton and Mustafizur Rahman will face Sri Lanka. Their final group match on September 16 will be against Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the perennial rivals India and Pakistan remain in the same group again this time. Their high-voltage clash is scheduled for September 14 in Dubai. The other two teams in Group A are Oman and the hosts UAE.
Only on September 15 will two matches be held simultaneously. The UAE vs Oman match in Abu Dhabi will start at 6 PM Bangladesh time, while Sri Lanka will take on Hong Kong in Dubai at 8 PM.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the next phase. In the Super Four stage, the qualifying teams will play each other once. The two best teams from that round will contest the final on September 28.
Most of the tournament’s matches will be played in Dubai, including 11 games and the final. Abu Dhabi will host a total of eight matches, including one in the Super Four stage.
