The Australian batsman has been fined and handed a demerit point.
It’s been over a week since Australia’s last T20 match against the West Indies, yet the ICC has only now handed down punishment to Australia’s Tim David for an incident that occurred during that game.
In a statement on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that David breached Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct — which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.”
As a result, David has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and given one demerit point on his disciplinary record.
The incident took place during the fifth over of Australia’s run chase in the final match of the five-game T20I series, played on July 28. Australia won that game by 3 wickets, sealing a clean sweep over the West Indies under Mitchell Marsh’s captaincy.
David showed visible dissent at an umpire’s decision when he extended his arms, signaling that a delivery from Alzarri Joseph down the leg side should have been called a wide.
Ironically, David was dismissed later in the same over, caught while attempting a big shot. Despite that, he played a crucial role in Australia’s win, smashing 30 off just 12 balls, which included four sixes and a four.
