South Africa’s experienced pacer has been ruled out of the ODI series against Australia.
Kagiso Rabada was present on the field with the team, but he was not seen warming up with his teammates. Shortly after, news of his injury emerged. South Africa will be without their pace attack leader for the entire series.
Rabada has been ruled out of the ODI series against Australia. Just before the first ODI in Cairns on Tuesday, Cricket South Africa announced on social media that the 30-year-old pacer has suffered an ankle injury.
Rabada had played in the three-match T20I series ahead of the ODIs. However, Cricket South Africa did not reveal exactly when he got injured. A scan on Monday confirmed that the injury is serious.
Despite missing the series, the 164-wicket ODI bowler will remain in Australia with the squad. He will undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the team’s medical staff.
Due to Rabada’s injury, Kwayena Mafaka has been added to the squad. The left-arm pacer, 19, took nine wickets in the recently concluded three-match T20I series and has so far claimed five wickets in his two ODI appearances.
Mafaka did not get a chance in the first ODI. The Proteas’ pace attack in this match features Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje alongside pace-bowling all-rounder Wayne Mulder.
