Sri Lanka have been fined yet again, this time after the second ODI against Zimbabwe, despite winning the series 2-0.
For the second match in a row, Sri Lanka faced the same punishment — a 5% fine on their match fees due to a slow over rate during the second ODI in Harare.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the sanction in a statement on Monday, stating that Sri Lanka bowled one over short of the required quota within the stipulated time.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over short of the target.
Sri Lanka’s stand-in skipper Charith Asalanka accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Jeff Crowe, which meant no formal hearing was required.
In the second ODI, Zimbabwe batted first and posted 277/7 in their 50 overs. Powered by Pathum Nissanka’s century, Sri Lanka chased down the target successfully, winning by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare to secure the series 2-0.
Interestingly, Sri Lanka were also fined for a slow over rate in the first ODI, which they won by 7 runs, facing the same 5% deduction from their match fees.
Next up, the two teams will face off in a three-match T20I series, starting Wednesday in Harare.
