Bangladesh’s final T20I against the Netherlands was abandoned due to persistent rain, but Liton Das, Zakir Ali, and Nurul Hasan Sohan managed to squeeze in some much-needed batting practice before the skies opened up.
The game endured several interruptions — first due to floodlight issues and twice because of rain — and neither team got to complete a full innings. However, Bangladesh can take comfort in the batting time they did get, especially ahead of the Asia Cup. With the match washed out, Liton’s men sealed the series 2-0.
Criticism had mounted over Bangladesh’s decision not to bat first in the earlier matches, but this time, losing the toss worked in their favor. Sent in to bat, Bangladesh posted 164/4 in 18.2 overs before the match was called off.
Captain Liton Das led from the front, smashing 73 off 46 balls, surviving two dropped chances along the way. With this knock, he broke Shakib Al Hasan’s record for the most T20I fifties by a Bangladeshi, registering his 14th half-century. He had also scored a fifty in the series opener, marking a timely return to form.
Meanwhile, Tawhid Hridoy’s struggles continued, scoring just 9, while Saif Hassan and Shamim Hossain also failed to impress. On the brighter side, Zakir Ali and Nurul Hasan Sohan, playing their first game of the series, got some valuable batting time, remaining unbeaten on 20 off 13* and 22 off 11* respectively.
Bangladesh started aggressively, racing to 39 runs in just 3 overs, thanks to Liton’s assault — including 22 runs in one over off left-arm spinner Daniel Doram. However, after a rain break, the momentum slowed, and boundaries dried up until Liton reached his fifty with a six off Doram.
As rain returned, the lower-order batters played brief cameos before the match was eventually abandoned.
Now, Liton and Co. shift focus to the Asia Cup, starting next Tuesday, where Bangladesh’s first match is scheduled against Hong Kong on September 11.
