Jordan Cox has earned his reward for shining with the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred.
After winning the Player of the Tournament award, the 24-year-old top-order batter has been recalled to England’s T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Ireland.
Cox played a key role in helping Oval Invincibles secure their third consecutive title, scoring 367 runs at an average of 61.16 and a strike rate of 173.93. In last Sunday’s final at Lord’s against the Trent Rockets, he smashed a quickfire 40 off 28 balls, guiding his team to a 26-run victory.
Speaking after the match, Cox expressed his determination to keep fighting for a regular spot in the England side. Over the years, he has missed several opportunities due to unfortunate setbacks — including a broken finger just before his Test debut in New Zealand and a side strain while scoring a century for Essex earlier this season.
So far, Cox has played two T20Is and three ODIs for England but hasn’t made a big impact yet. In last year’s T20Is against Australia, he scored 17 and 0, and during the West Indies ODIs, he managed just 17, 4, and 1.
With several senior players unavailable, England is sending a second-string squad for the Ireland series. The team will be led by 21-year-old Jacob Bethell, with matches scheduled on September 17, 19, and 21 in Dublin. Cox has now been added to the squad, giving him another chance to revive his international career and make a lasting impression.
