Pace-bowling all-rounder Sam Curran has earned a recall to the England national team after showcasing impressive performances with both bat and ball in domestic cricket.
After nearly 10 months away from international cricket, Curran is set to make his return as he has been named in England’s T20 squad for the upcoming series against South Africa and Ireland.
Ben Duckett has been rested for the South Africa series. He, along with several other regular players, had already been given a break from the Ireland series earlier. Separate squads for these series were announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) last month, and on Friday, the ECB confirmed Curran’s inclusion.
Curran, who has played 24 Tests, 35 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for England so far, hasn’t featured in any format this year. His last international appearance came in November 2024 during a T20I. The 27-year-old was a key figure in England’s 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, where he was named Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament.
In domestic cricket, Curran’s recent form has been outstanding. Across 24 matches in the T20 Blast and The Hundred this summer, he scored 603 runs at a strike rate of 154.21 and claimed 33 wickets, making a strong case for his national team return.
The three-match T20I series against South Africa begins next Wednesday in Cardiff, followed by a three-match T20I series against Ireland starting on September 17 in Dublin.
Meanwhile, England have already lost the first two ODIs in the ongoing series against South Africa, with the final match scheduled for Sunday.
