Bangladesh were bowled out for just 93 runs and suffered a crushing 200-run defeat, as Afghanistan sealed a 3–0 whitewash with a commanding performance.
Saif Hassan scored 43, while the rest of the batting lineup — combined with extras — managed only 50 runs. That tells the story. In a match where Bangladesh desperately needed commitment, determination, and hunger to avoid a whitewash, they collapsed completely. After a poor bowling display, the batting was even worse — marking a new low in an already disastrous series.
Bangladesh’s 200-run defeat equals their heaviest ODI loss outside home — the same margin by which they lost to South Africa in East London back in 2017. It also marked Afghanistan’s first-ever bilateral series whitewash against Bangladesh.
Earlier, Afghanistan, batting first on the same pitch where both sides struggled in the previous match, posted a strong total of 293 in 50 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran once again led from the front, scoring 95 before getting out on the same score as the previous match. Mohammad Nabi provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 62 off 37 balls, including a late onslaught that lifted Afghanistan past 290.
In contrast, Bangladesh’s batting was a nightmare. The team folded for 93 in just 27.1 overs — failing to even cross 100. Apart from Saif Hassan’s 43, the other batters had single-digit scores resembling phone numbers: 7, 3, 7, 6, 0, 2, 4, 5, 9, 2.
Young Afghan pacer Bilal Sami, playing only his second ODI, claimed 5 wickets to seal the win and the series.
The day began well for Afghanistan. Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave them a fiery start, hammering six boundaries in the first five overs. Gurbaz’s flick for six off Nahid Rana and another boundary two balls later took their total past 50 inside seven overs.
Bangladesh’s pacers, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, were mostly ineffective despite Nahid regularly bowling at 145–150 km/h. He did, however, manage to create a chance when Ibrahim edged one to slip — but it was dropped by Mohammad Naim.
The opening duo went on to become Afghanistan’s most successful ODI partnership ever, surpassing Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah’s previous record.
It was Tanvir Islam who finally broke the stand at 99, trapping Gurbaz lbw for 42 with a sharp arm ball. Ibrahim then formed another solid partnership with Sediqullah Atal, taking Afghanistan past 150 in the 25th over.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz brought in Saif Hassan to bowl, and it paid off instantly. With his round-arm off-spin, Saif dismissed Atal for 29 and then skipper Shahidi for 2 in consecutive overs.
Bangladesh briefly gained control — Ibrahim was run out on 95 by a brilliant direct hit from Nahid Rana, while Saif sent back Ikram Alikhil. Tanvir then bowled Azmatullah Omarzai for 20 with a turning delivery, and Rashid Khan fell for 8 after hitting a six off his first ball.
Afghanistan lost 6 wickets for just 48 runs, and at one stage, they went 61 balls without a boundary. But Nabi’s late assault turned the innings around.
After Nahid Rana left the field injured, Miraz came on to complete the over — and Nabi pounced. He smashed three huge sixes in the same over, which went for 25 runs. In the final over, Hasan Mahmud was also punished for 19 runs. Nabi ended unbeaten on 62 off 37 balls, with 44 runs coming in the last two overs as Afghanistan’s total soared to 293.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh never looked in contention. Naim Sheikh, playing his first ODI in two years, managed just 7 off 24 balls. Najmul Hossain Shanto followed soon after, dragging Bilal Sami onto his stumps for 3.
Saif Hassan showed some resistance with clean shots for fours and sixes but couldn’t rotate the strike enough. When Rashid Khan came into the attack, he dismantled Bangladesh’s middle order — bowling Towhid Hridoy with his first ball and later dismissing Saif with another superb googly.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell to a loose shot off Bilal Sami, and Shamim Hossain was run out the next ball. Nurul Hasan Sohan was trapped lbw by Rashid, and the tail crumbled quickly.
Bilal Sami completed his five-wicket haul, earning the Player of the Match award. Rashid finished with 3 wickets, taking his total to 11 in the three-match series — a world record for a three-game ODI series. Ibrahim Zadran was named Player of the Series for his consistent batting.
Bangladesh won’t have much time to recover from this humiliation — they face West Indies in another ODI series at home starting this Saturday.
