A demerit point has been added to the Afghan opener’s name.
After being run out and showing his frustration beyond the boundary rope, Ibrahim Zadran’s punishment was inevitable—and it has now arrived. The Afghanistan opener has been fined for breaching the code of conduct, along with receiving one demerit point.
The incident took place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday during the third ODI against Bangladesh. In the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings, Ibrahim was run out.
Having fallen for 95 runs in two consecutive matches, Ibrahim was visibly furious. After crossing the boundary line, he threw his bat in anger and later kicked a chair inside the dugout.
Ibrahim accepted responsibility for his actions and agreed to the sanction imposed by match referee Graeme Labrooy, which made a formal hearing unnecessary.
Afghanistan went on to whitewash Bangladesh with a commanding 200-run victory in that match.
