Ismat Alam has received one demerit point against his name.
The Afghan all-rounder has been sanctioned for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Along with an official reprimand, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.
Afghanistan suffered an innings and 73-run defeat to Zimbabwe on the third day of the one-off Test in Harare on Wednesday. Following the match, the ICC announced Ismat’s punishment.
The incident took place on the second day during the 90th over of Zimbabwe’s innings. Tafadzwa Tsiga defended a delivery straight down the pitch, after which bowler Ismat Alam picked up the ball and threw it toward the batsman. The ICC deemed this act a violation of its code of conduct.
According to Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, throwing a ball or any cricket equipment dangerously or inappropriately at a player during an international match is considered an offence.
Ismat admitted his mistake and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, meaning no formal hearing was required.
In the Test, the 23-year-old all-rounder took two wickets for 51 runs in Zimbabwe’s only innings. With the bat, he managed scores of just 8 and 16 in the two innings.
