India were cruising at 57 without loss while chasing Bangladesh’s modest total of 119 when rain intervened, forcing the match to be abandoned.

Rain had already disrupted proceedings from the start, delaying the toss and play for a long time. Even after the game began, the weather continued to cause interruptions, and ultimately, the contest between Bangladesh and India was washed out.

Sunday’s Women’s World Cup match in Navi Mumbai had its overs reduced twice due to rain. Bangladesh were restricted to 119 for 9 in 27 overs, while India reached 57 for no loss before further showers ended any hope of resumption.

This was Bangladesh’s final match of the tournament. Nigar Sultana’s side managed just one win—from seven matches—against Pakistan, finishing seventh out of eight teams.

Earlier, rain fell even before the toss, though no overs were lost initially. India won the toss and chose to field, but further delays meant the game started nearly 90 minutes late, reduced to 43 overs per side. Bangladesh lost a wicket in the very first over. Sharmin Akter and Rubaiya Haider added 31 runs before Deepti Sharma dismissed Rubaiya for 13.

Another downpour followed, halting play for more than two hours. The match was then shortened to 27 overs per innings.

Captain Nigar Sultana was run out for 9 off 24 balls, while Sharmin Akter anchored the innings with 36 off 53 balls, hitting eight fours. Sobhana Mostary supported with 26 off 31 balls, including four boundaries. However, seven Bangladeshi batters failed to reach double figures.

Among India’s bowlers, left-arm spinner Radha Yadav claimed 3 wickets, while Sri Charani took 2.

In reply, Smriti Mandhana continued her fine form, scoring an unbeaten 34 with six fours, alongside Amanjot Kaur’s 15. India were comfortably placed at 57 without loss in the ninth over when rain returned, ending the match prematurely.

Bangladesh, though spared another defeat, ended their campaign on a disappointing note.

Brief Scores

Bangladesh: 119/9 in 27 overs (Sharmin 36, Sobhana 26; Radha Yadav 3/30, Sri Charani 2/23)
India: 57/0 in 8.4 overs (Mandhana 34*, Amanjot 15*) — Match abandoned due to rain
