In the tri-nation series, Pakistan’s off-spinner Usman Tariq claimed a brilliant hat-trick against Zimbabwe.
Playing only his second T20I for Pakistan, Usman Tariq achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the fourth Pakistani bowler in this format to take a hat-trick.
The 27-year-old off-spinner produced the hat-trick on Sunday in Rawalpindi during the tri-nation series clash with Zimbabwe.
Before Tariq, Pakistan’s T20 hat-trick takers were Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Hasnain, and Mohammad Nawaz. Faheem achieved it against Sri Lanka in 2017, Hasnain against the same team in 2019, and Nawaz against Afghanistan last September, each taking three wickets in three consecutive deliveries.
Chasing a target, Zimbabwe were in trouble when Tariq came on to bowl his second over in the tenth. Tony Munyonga failed to score off the first delivery, and on the next ball, he attempted a sweep but was caught at short fine leg.
The third ball saw Tashinga Musekiwa bowled while trying to play forward, and on the fourth delivery, Wellington Masakadza lofted one only to be caught at long-on. Tariq celebrated his hat-trick in style, and no runs came off the final two deliveries of the over.
He also picked up another wicket in his final over, finishing with four wickets for just 18 runs in four overs, including a maiden.
