After a decade, the T20 World Cup is finally returning to India, and the country’s former captain is delighted.
Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the ambassador for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The former India skipper, who led the team to the title in the previous edition, is excited to receive this honour.
At a grand event in Mumbai on Tuesday, the groups and full schedule for the World Cup—set to be held in India and Sri Lanka—were officially revealed. It was there that Rohit was announced as the brand ambassador for the upcoming tournament.
During India’s successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, Rohit not only delivered exceptional leadership but also made a major impact with the bat. Playing in the USA and West Indies, he finished as India’s highest run-scorer with 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70.
Shortly after becoming world champion, Rohit announced his retirement from international T20 cricket. He ended his career with 4,231 runs at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 140.89.
India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, a tournament where Rohit made his T20 international debut.
The last time India hosted the T20 World Cup was in 2016. Now, ten years later, Rohit is thrilled to see the tournament return to home soil.
“I wish all the players the very best. I hope they have a memorable time, enjoy India’s hospitality, and leave with many wonderful memories.”
The 10th edition of the T20 World Cup will begin on February 7 and conclude on March 8.
