The T20 series will be decided in the final match.
Match officials carried out multiple inspections after stepping onto the field, but each check only prolonged the wait. With visibility failing to improve, the fourth T20 between India and South Africa was eventually abandoned due to dense fog.
The match was scheduled to begin at 7:30pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday in Lucknow, but heavy fog had blanketed the ground well before the start, making conditions unsafe for play.
As there was no improvement in visibility, the umpires officially called off the match at around 10:00pm.
India currently lead the five-match series 2-1.
The series decider will be played in Ahmedabad on Friday.
