Bangladesh has been drawn against the United States, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, and Namibia in the qualifiers for the Women’s T20 World Cup. “On the opening day of the qualifiers, Nigar Sultana’s team will take the field in their bid to secure a spot in the main tournament,” said officials.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the groupings and schedule for the qualifiers on Wednesday.
The 10 teams have been divided into two groups. Bangladesh has been placed in Group A, while Zimbabwe, Scotland, Thailand, the Netherlands, and Nepal are in Group B.
The entire tournament will be held at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium and Upper Mulpani Cricket Stadium in Kathmandu. The first match of the day will start at 9:15 am Bangladesh time, with the second beginning at 1:15 pm.
On the opening day, January 18, four matches will take place. Bangladesh will face the United States at Upper Mulpani on that day. The following day, they will play Papua New Guinea at Tribhuvan University Stadium.
On January 22, Bangladesh will take on Namibia at Tribhuvan University Stadium, followed by a match against Ireland at Upper Mulpani on January 24.
The teams will compete for four spots in the main tournament of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for June-July 2026. Three teams from each group will advance to the next stage, and the top four sides after the Super Six round will qualify for the main event.
The Super Six round will start on January 28 and run until February 1.
Ahead of the qualifiers, ten preparatory matches will be held from January 14. Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches: against the Netherlands at Tribhuvan University in the morning of the first day, and against Thailand at Upper Mulpani on January 16 in the afternoon.
The 2026 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will feature 12 teams for the first time. Last year, 10 teams took part, with New Zealand defeating South Africa in the final to claim the title.
