Nine players from the Netherlands’ last T20 series squad have not made it to the World Cup team.
With a slew of changes, the Netherlands have finalized their T20 World Cup squad, welcoming back several familiar faces.
Experienced players like Rolf van der Merwe, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Logan van Beek, and Tim van der Gugten have returned to the 15-member squad. Michael Levitt and Jack Lion-Cashey have also been recalled.
The 41-year-old spinning all-rounder van der Merwe, pace-bowling all-rounder de Leede, top-order batsman Levitt, and spinning all-rounder Cashey all last played in July during the T20 World Cup Europe regional final.
The 34-year-old spinning all-rounder Ackermann last played T20 for the national team in November 2024. The same applies to 34-year-old pacer van der Gugten. The 35-year-old pacer van Beek last appeared in July 2024.
From the Netherlands’ most recent T20 series against Bangladesh in August-September, nine players are missing from the World Cup squad: Vikramjit Singh, Anil Nidamanuru, Sikandar Zulfiqar, Cedric de Lange, Shariz Ahmad, Ben Fletcher, Daniel Doram, Tim Pringle, and Sebastian Braat.
The Netherlands will begin their World Cup campaign on February 7 with the opening match against Pakistan in Colombo. Their other three Group A opponents are Namibia, the United States, and India.
