Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Old Trafford after failing to secure a spot in the coaching staff under the new manager.

Van Nistelrooy’s chapter at Manchester United has come to an end. The former striker left the club after not being included in the coaching staff of new head coach Ruben Amuri.

Amuri, the Portuguese coach, arrived at United on Monday. On the same day, the club, the most successful in the Premier League, announced Van Nistelrooy’s departure.

Van Nistelrooy had joined United as an assistant coach on a two-year contract last July. Following the team’s poor performances, Erik ten Hag was dismissed as head coach at the end of last month, and Van Nistelrooy was temporarily given charge.

Under his guidance, United went unbeaten in all four matches across all competitions, winning three and drawing one. They secured a 3-0 victory over Leicester City in the league on Sunday.

The 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy had repeatedly expressed his willingness to stay at the club in any role, even after Amuri took over. However, his wish was not fulfilled.

Although Amuri respects Van Nistelrooy, he prefers to work with his former assistants from Sporting Lisbon in his new role.

As a player, Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 matches over five seasons at United.
