According to various media reports, Argentine coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has stepped down from his role as head coach of Inter Miami, citing personal reasons.

Martino will no longer be seen in Inter Miami’s dugout. The Argentine, who coached stars like Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, has reportedly ‘resigned’ from his position.

As of now, neither the club nor Martino has officially confirmed the news. However, several outlets reported on Tuesday that the 61-year-old has decided to leave his position for personal reasons.

Under Martino’s guidance, Inter Miami won the Supporters’ Shield this season. However, their journey in the MLS Playoffs ended in the first round with a loss to Atlanta United.

Inter Miami has scheduled a press conference for this Friday, where Martino and senior club officials are expected to address the matter.

Martino joined Inter Miami as head coach in June 2023 after spending over three years with Mexico’s national team. He left his role with Mexico following their group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup — their earliest elimination in over four decades.

During his tenure, Inter Miami claimed the Leagues Cup in 2023.

In 2018, Martino led Atlanta United to an MLS Cup victory but chose not to renew his contract, also citing personal reasons at the time.
